Participate in one of our various study visits showcasing the gastronomic profile of Östersund and the Region of Jämtland Härjedalen, Friday, 16 September 11.00-17.00.
Explore gastronomy and the artisan food making in Jämtland
Focus: gastronomy, artisan food production
Artisan food creates unique products – rich in taste, high in quality and clear in identity. Products are made primarily from local raw materials that are transformed with care, on small scale and often in the artisan´s own farm.
The county of Jämtland is famous for it´s cuisine and artisan food traditions. A food artisan works with natural raw materials and natural processes to create gastronomic products within for example dairy, baking, charcuterie, fish, berry, fruit and vegetables. During this tour you will visit some of the artisan food producers in the countryside of Jämtland such as cheese dairy farms, microbrewery and local bakeries. The tour also includes a stop at Eldrimner, Sweden’s Resource centre for artisan food, which since 1995 has inspired and supported food artisans all over Sweden and Scandinavia. Lunch and coffee break included.
Whispering trees and Mountain spirits
Focus: Nature, craft and gastronomy
Östersund City rests in the middle of the Region of Jämtland Härjedalen with its vast forests, mountains and lakes. Outdoor activities and the rich heritage attract visitors from all over the world, to enjoy its nature, culture and history.
We travel along the lake with its mysterious monster, through the forest and towards the mountains. The founder of Persåsen, Leif Wikner, will tell you about his passion for old trees and forest and how to see the essence in the wood. Lunch will be served and on our way back we stop for coffee cooked over an open fire by the old Oviken church. This is a tour that shows you the beauty of the landscape and the possibilities of nature.
Sami handicraft, blowing glass and high-tech product testing

West of Östersund City, the village of Åre is an international hotspot in winter sports and tourism, but also a centre for entrepreneurs in the sports and outdoor industry. The development in Åre is founded on the heritage and the long traditions of 9000 years of settlements.
We travel by coach through the beautiful Sami land to alpine world championship village Åre. We get an insight into the history, folk art and design traditions of the indigenous Sami people. We visit a modern glassblower focusing on design and export, and round off the day back in Östersund at the unique high-tech wind and rain tunnel of the Mid Sweden University, where new materials and designs are tested to their limits. Lunch and coffee break included.
